DISK Wars Avengers 4: Iron Man and Samurai Boy into Action!

Iron Man explains his current situation to Akira, while Nick Fury is stripped of his SHIELD position by Senator Robert of the World Security Council. We know that Fury is sometimes a dick, but why on Earth would he be stripped of his position?!

DISK 4 (1)

The first half of this episode is mostly an exposition episode, as they explain the function of the DISKs and the Biocode. When a hero or a villain is captured into the DISK, anybody can use the DISK to summon the hero via hologram to communicate with them, or put it simply, they need to make Iron Man look cute, as he said it himself. Also, the DISK pretty much acts like a Poke Ball, that in the sense of the resident is comfortable in it but it also provides another function that they don’t feel sleepy or hungry due to the DISK’s healing ability.

Next, we get to learn more about the Biocode, specifically the Biocode that was installed in Akira, Hikaru and the other three kids. Apparently because of the damaged installer, the Biocodes in their body was an incomplete one, and then comes the term “Limited Biocode”, which limits their usage to the DISK e.g. they can only summon the heroes for 5 minutes and possibly only attributed to one DISK each, or something like that.

DISK 4 (2)

Meanwhile, Spider-Man has been collecting Captain America, Thor, Hulk and Wasp’s DISKs so for now we know that they are in safe hands, but it also makes Spidey a target. Also, we get to learn more about the Smart Brain that is a henchman of Loki’s, he was a member of SHIELD and betrayed them with the attack on the Raft. And because of that, Senator Robert accuses Nick Fury and arrests him. But not only that, he also forbids SHIELD from any other activity, rendering them useless! Wow what a dick!

Regardless, Fury is captured whatsoever, while Hawkeye is watching. The Lizard attacks New York, which causes Spider-Man to go into action, but Akira decides to D-Smash Iron Man and fly into action as well, much to Senator Robert’s dismay.

DISK 4 (3)

I wanna talk about the animation of this series for a while. Honestly, it was more of a mixed bag. Being an anime it’s expected that the animation would be high quality, but there are times where the character looks like it’s drawn by a 6-year old in some angles. It’s evident in this episode by looking at Spider-Man. There will be a moment where he looks like he took some steroids!

Regardless, the action animation is well done, though not in the level of high quality animes. It’s more like Digimon/Pokemon level. Well at least it’s better than Naruto right?……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………I’m gonna get a lot of hate for that one huh?

DISK 4 (4)

Anyways when Iron Man is fighting the Lizard, whom I actually dig the stylized appearance, Stark reveals a vital function of the DISK: It allows the user to initiate a command that allows the hero/villain to use their finisher. Now, I really, really like this approach. I’m a sucker for finishers. But I do know that this method will be somewhat of a mixed bag for fans, but seriously I like finishers and I love it even more when Western superheroes has finishers. Imagine what Spider-Man’s finisher looks like, or even Cap. Man, I hope his finisher involving him using the Shield as brass knuckles and punch the enemy! See the impact of the finishers? It makes a geek like me cringe!

And with that, Lizard is defeated and Akira used an empty DISK to D-Secure him back. Whoa, this looks like Kamen Rider Blade all over again. So in every episode they will fight a Marvel villain and then D-Secure them. And finally they beat Loki’s ass. I’ll look forward to that.

After fighting Lizard, Iron Man goes back to his DISK, as his time had just run out. It seems that he can either stay exactly for 5 minutes or longer. But hey, this is anime, or rather fiction. If Frieza says the Earth will explode in 5 minutes but it took 20 episodes to progress that 5 minutes, there will be a lot of moments where the Avengers will stay even longer than that supposed 5 minutes.

DISK 4 (5)

However, things get worse when Diamondback suddenly appears to prevent Akira from obtaining a DISK in a bank. Yeah, that was the reason why he and Iron Man jumped into action, because the DISK was scattered through various places. So with that, Akira is in trouble because Iron Man can’t be summoned for a while, and Diamondback is a troublesome foe, even though I honestly never heard of her. But hey, they have Spider-Man, right?

Back at the Helicarrier, Hawkeye approaches Hikaru and ask his help to save Akira and obtain that DISK. I really hated that they steroid-fy Hawkeye. Also, this episode was titled “Hawkeye, the Supporter” but he barely did anything in this episode! That’s convinient, it’s like having a Power Rangers episode where it was titled “Ernie gives the Rangers free Milkshakes”. Somebody has a serious problem with giving titles.

Overall, this episode actually redeems the bad quality of the previous episode, because the pacing got back into its rightful pace. So I do recommend people watching this episode. It’s actually good and not that bad.
